Dealing with acne problems is just part of being a teenager. Part of what helps us deal with acne as teenagers is knowing that everyone else in our age group is going through the same problems. Puberty is supposed to be the worst of our acne years; by adulthood we’re supposed to be mostly finished with it. This is why so many of us are so embarrassed by the occasional breakout or zit. Nothing makes us feel like kids again more than waking up to find that we’re sporting some new spots and bumps. Are you getting all of the vitamins and nutrients that you need? You might not know this yet, but not eating a balanced diet can cause some people to break out. When you are not healthy, acne can be a symptom of that. Some people find that simply taking a multi-vitamin is all they need to correct this issue. Vitamins might seem like an easy fix and it is true that they won’t fix everything but they can help make up for some of the nutritional deficiencies you are experiencing. If you are malnutritioned, your body is making a bunch of extra sebum which is getting into your pores and clogging them which causes breakouts-this is why many people think acne is a sign of bigger health issues. This type of acne is easily beaten by eating a healthy diet and taking your vitamins every day.
Do your best to keep your hands away from your face. Most people don’t realize how much time their hands spend on their faces every day. Acne issues can partly be blamed on how much time people let their hands rest on their faces. Think back. If you touch something and then touch your face, in essence, you are touching your face with that something. If you make a habit of resting your face on your hands then the oil that is on your hands is going straight into the pores on your face. This is why it is so easy to catch the flu from other people because your hands touch objects that people with the flu have touched and then transfer those germs straight to your face when you rest your face on your hands! Don’t touch your face!
If you are a habitual face toucher at least make sure that you keep your hands clean. This means that you should wash your hands often.
Take care to protect your skin against the sun’s rays. For people whose goal is to keep their pores free of clogs, spreading on thick sunscreen probably seems counterintuitive. There are plenty of oil-free sunscreen alternatives out there.
The days of the heavy, smelly and gloppy sunscreen lotions are over. Now you can choose between sunscreens that are light and can be sprayed on instead of rubbed in. You’ll also be happy to learn that most of the lotion and makeup you own already contains sun fighting agents. Don’t believe it when you hear people say that tanning prevents acne–it only increases your risk for skin cancer! Sometimes the best thing you can do to treat your acne is to go back to basics: keep your face clean and keep your hands away from breakouts. Other times you’ll need something more powerful to help you fight acne. The good news is that, whether you are in your teens, twenties or sixties–there are plenty of ways to help you keep the acne at bay!
